Red Rocks

Hot morning at the ol' Amphitheater this morning, and that along with the "Blazed and Confused" concert last night, made for a slightly uncomfortable training session today. But, we drove all the way out there, so we weren't going to let some heat and some trash deter us. And we got in a GREAT workout.

Since they were cleaning from last night's concert, our normal area was soaking wet. This made the footing unsafe so we asked if we could train next to another group of athletes that are usually there on Thursday as well. This other group has some pretty big guys in it, but they are nice and let us share their area.

Our kids did great, Mel is getting stronger and stronger every week. She got all the way up to 50 stairs (after doing 40, then 30, 20 and ten) and then did two more sets getting over 40 stairs each time. Queens College is getting a fast young lady. Tyler and Travis also had fantastic performances, with Travis getting all the way to the top of the ladder and Tyler not far behind. These two boys can really hammer up those stairs, both of their foot-speed and leg drive is in great shape right now. Katelyn had a great technical day. She was feeling a little under the weather, so we focused on perfect form, and she did seven sets of twenty-plus stairs with impeccable technique. Beth has also been coming to Red Rocks, and she had her best day of the season so far. She got up over twenty stairs each time, getting stringer and stronger with each set. Everyone did so awesome, it was great to see.

It was also great to see Coach Hawk and Coach Whitenack there as well, the more coaches offering encouragement and guidance the better.

And those big guys we were sharing space with? Turns out they were football players getting ready with a private coach for the upcoming NFL season. Ebenezer Eukuban of the Broncos, Bo Sciafe of the Titans and some other guys have been doing the stairs all summer long, and they were generous enough to share space with us. I gotta tell ya, these guys are pretty impressive, cause they hammer these stairs, but they have three times more mass than any of our kids do. :) But they were pretty impressed with us as well, with Bo Sciafe calling Mel a "beast" after she got up to 50 stairs. Pretty cool experience, we'll see them again next week!

No official practice this Saturday, I want everyone to do a long run on their own. Monday is "To Be Determined", it all depends on what my parents have planned. I will send out a text to the club members this weekend with more information.

Great job today, get some recovery time in this afternoon!

P.S. My daughter was there today too, here is a picture of her. I can't see her playing in the NFL anytime soon though. :)
